The Oscilloscope Connection

An oscilloscope (sometimes abbreviated CRO, for cathode-ray oscilloscope, or commonly just scope or O-scope) is a piece of electronic test equipment that allows signal voltages to be viewed, usually as a two-dimensional graph of one or more electrical potential differences (vertical axis) plotted as a function of time or of some other voltage (horizontal axis).

Oscilloscopes are most commonly used to test electrical equipment and ensure that it is operating properly. By using an oscilloscope, each component of an electronic device can be tested down the line to see where a fault lies within the entire device. The oscilloscope shows a graphical representation of the electrical signal generated by a piece of equipment. If this signal is faulty, an oscilloscope can quickly track down the fault.
